No, Evangelicals do not believe in purgatory. Purgatory is a doctrine within Roman Catholicism that teaches that after death, souls undergo a purification process before entering heaven. Evangelicals, on the other hand, believe in salvation through faith in Jesus Christ alone and that believers go directly to heaven upon death. They do not believe in the need for a purgatorial state. **

Purgatory is a concept in Christianity, particularly in Catholicism, that refers to a place or state of purification for souls who have died in a state of grace but still have some remaining attachment to sin. It is believed that these souls must undergo a process of purification before they can enter into the fullness of heaven. Purgatory is not a place of punishment, but rather a place of cleansing and preparation for the ultimate union with God. The idea of purgatory is based on the belief that God's justice and mercy require that any remaining imperfections be purified before entering into the perfection of heaven. **

In purgatory, time is believed to work differently than on Earth. It is often described as a state of existence where time is experienced differently, with no clear beginning or end. Souls in purgatory are said to undergo a process of purification and spiritual growth, which can take varying amounts of time depending on the individual's sins and the level of purification needed. Ultimately, the concept of time in purgatory is seen as a means for souls to progress towards their eventual entry into heaven. **

No, purgatory is not the same as hell. In Catholic theology, purgatory is seen as a temporary state of purification for souls who have died in a state of grace but still need to be purified before entering heaven. It is not a place of eternal punishment like hell. Hell, on the other hand, is seen as a place of eternal separation from God and is reserved for those who have died in a state of mortal sin without repentance. **

The existence of hell and purgatory is a matter of religious belief and varies among different faith traditions. In Christianity, hell is often understood as a place of eternal punishment for those who have rejected God, while purgatory is seen as a temporary state of purification for souls who are not yet ready for heaven. In other religions, such as Buddhism and Hinduism, concepts of hell and purgatory may be different or may not exist at all. Ultimately, beliefs about hell and purgatory are deeply rooted in religious teachings and vary widely across different cultures and faith traditions. **

Orthodox Christians reject the concept of purgatory because it is not found in the teachings of the early Church Fathers or in the early Christian tradition. They believe that the idea of purgatory was developed later in the Western Christian tradition and is not supported by the teachings of the Bible or the early Church. Additionally, Orthodox Christians believe that the process of sanctification and purification occurs in this life, through the sacraments and the work of the Holy Spirit, rather than in a separate state after death. Therefore, they do not accept the need for a purgatorial state. **
